THE PRACTICE Formed in April 1992, the Practice is headed by Cyril Smith, FRICS who has over 30 years experience of the Quantity Surveying profession in both Private Practice and Contracting. Other personnel include Terry Crew, FCIOB with over 20 years of Quantity Surveying experience and extensive knowledge of the Contracting industry. We believe Quantity Surveying is cost management, not just cost control, meaning how to manage the budget and how to contribute to value engineering in order to achieve the best value for money for the Client's budget. We work with the Design Team to assist the design, not hinder it. When an idea or theme is desired but over budget we will go forward with the Design Team to retain the essence of the idea and endeavour to bring the design back within budget. During post-contract works we will monitor costs, assess variations and changes to the design, offer cost advice and keep the Client aware of the current and projected cost implication.
